The School with the Eternal Advantage

January 2014

2013 certainly did go by very quickly!  We have entered 2014 and it too seems to be moving at a very speedy pace.  The consolation I have is that as quickly as the time passes so quickly the coming of our Lord shall occur.  Oh, that we all may be found ready!

The first half of our school year has been eventful, successful, and blessed by God Himself.  We started out this school year with the launch of our construction theme – “Let’s Build Scholars Together!”, our 1st Annual Consecration Prayer Service and March and the commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, for which our students received national acclaim with well wishes coming from as far away as England and Alaska!

In October, our Boys Choir made their debut with their powerful performance of Psalm 34 at the Dupont Park Adventist Church.  In November, our Honor Roll and Principal’s List students were celebrated at the 1st quarter Honor Assembly and Pastor Exum and Elder Chambers delivered God’s Word during the Week of Prayer and the culminating Vespers Service.

We ended the calendar year with a stellar performance at President’s Park at the National Christmas Tree which came after the talent-filled night of our Annual Christmas Play, The First Leon! Just before we left for Christmas break our student scientists prepared for and participated in presentations for the STEM Fair.

God has blessed The Dupont Park Adventist School to be a beacon of light in Washington DC and we are grateful to God for His providence and His sustaining power.  He has also blessed us with the finest student body, gifted educators and exceptional parental supporters.  We remain eternally grateful.

As we continue to build scholars as well as character, this month, we are also building with excellence.  We are petitioning God’s throne on behalf of our churches and are being reminded that God has a plan for our lives and all we have to do is to follow His commands and do as He requires.

December 2013

I have found that there is nothing more awe-inspiring than to sit back and watch God work!  During this year, I have had numerous instances to do just that.  This year started far differently than I planned.  I’ve heard the saying, we make plans and God laughs.  I don’t know just how true that is, certainly there is no biblical premise for such a statement, but plausible it could be.  If it is true, God certainly had occasion to laugh at me this year, along with many others of you.

Well, December is here, and I can scream unequivocally that I am BLESSED, and yes I can now laugh! God continues to do His work.  I am so happy that God has not finished with me as yet.  He continues to build my character, helps me build my faith, and challenges me to trust and rely on Him.  I am under construction and He is intent on making me what He wants me to be. I was reminded often during this past year to surrender my will to Him; for it is Him that fashioned me.  He has allowed the test.  He knew my end before my beginning. My prayer for us all is that we would trust God more, with our plans, and our very lives, for He does everything well.

Keep These In Mind This Month:
  • Memory Text: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son so that whosoever believes on Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
  • Bible Book: New Testament Book of Luke
  • Writing Prompt: Write a poem expressing God’s faithfulness to you during the year 2013.
  • Character Trait: Faithfulness
  • Prayer Focus: We are praying for our Parents
